The Cape Jaffa Lighthouse, Kingston SE

On 6/3/2020 we arrived in Kingston SE for the Labour Day long weekend staying on the foreshore. A beautiful spot for some well deserved downtime :-).

Kingston SE has a lovely beach, jetty, the big lobster 🙂 and heritage buildings including the Cape Jaffa Lighthouse. Originally situated on the Margaret Brock Reef, 8kms out to sea from Cape Jaffa on the south east coast of South Australia, the Cape Jaffa Lighthouse became Australia’s first lighthouse to be dismantled and re-located onshore.

Kingston SE beach (looks lovely but far too cold to have a swim….)

We also visited the nearby town of Robe which has an amazing coast line and a stone pillar, the Cape Dombey Obelisk, erected in 1852. Standing 12m high, the Obelisk is visible on a clear day at distances of up to 20kms out at sea. The obelisk originally stored vital life-saving equipment, which when an alarm was raised, would be sent out to passengers by blasting a rocket.
