Another South Australia coastal area and another jetty! We arrived in Edithburgh on 18/03/2020 and have been doing pretty much what we said we would – nothing – just relaxing and enjoying being by the coast.
The Yorke Peninsula is not as scenic as some areas we have seen consisting of grain fields and salt marshes. Edithburgh was an industrial town and port for the salt and agriculture industry. Grain farming is now dominant as well as fishing tourism.
We’ve taken a few walks along the coast towards Sultana Point with views towards Troubridge Island (the lighthouse was commissioned in 1856, converted to automatic operation in 1981 and decommissioned in 2001) and around the town with it’s beautiful heritage buildings.

Paul has also been fishing and snorkelling – note the wetsuit (well we are in south Australia swimming in the southern ocean). He saw loads of different fish and the jetty is covered in colourfull soft coral. The highlight was an Eagle Ray in the shallows, but but the Leafy Seadragons were hiding.

We are here for a couple more days then off to Marion Bay to visit the Innes National Park right on the tip.
Our plan is still to continue north up the middle through northern SA, Flinders Ranges and on to the Oodnadatta track, although the route may change as state borders are closing and we may have to go up the Birdsville Track avoiding the Northern Territory (I thought we were one country, but I must have missed something when I became an Australian citizen). We will then make a decision to turn east home or west depending on what’s best for us and the country. Will keep you posted.
