Back in Brisbane

Apologies for not updating the blog earlier, pretty shattered after the long drive back and of course the disappointment to be back in Brisbane so soon. However, we are had a good journey back and we are feeling lucky that Newmarket Gardens Caravan Park is open when so many parks are closed or closing. We are hoping we can stay until our house is available (early July).

We set out from Port Augusta (South Australia) as soon as the car was ready (slight issue that needed fixing before we set off) on Wednesday 25/03/2020. We spent the first night in a ‘rest area’ at Broken Hill (New South Wales: border not closed), the second night in Cobar in a caravan park (rude sign saying ‘go home’ on park entrance when we left in the morning!) and the final night at Narrabri Showgrounds (which closed the morning we left).

As near to the Flinders Ranges as we got
Broken Hill Rest Area
Cobar Caravan Park
The never ending road – spookily empty.
I think we were able to count the cars we saw with one hand,,,,
At least we could see the Warrumbungles (one of the places closed due to fires in december)
The beautiful green fields after the rains

We crossed into Queensland at Goondiwindi where the police took our names, car rego, asked where we had been and checked our driving licence to ensure we were residents. No mention of self isolating as we had not come from a COVID-19 hotspot.

We arrived at Newmarket Gardens Caravan Park on Saturday 28/03/2020.

Thanks for following us on our journey. We had a fabulous time and saw some amazing places.

Stay safe and well.

Hi there Paul & Alison, just thought Iā€™d check up on you and see how you are going. Guess you are settling back into Qld. way of life, or as best you can with all this self isolating. During this period we have been keeping ourselves busy doing all the odd jobs that one has been putting off. One job then leads to the next, and then the next. Take care, and hopefully our paths will cross again one day soon, when our lives get back to normal. Cheers, Marilyn & Ian Smith
