Uluru (WK 3)

Uluru from Uluru – Kata Tjuta Caravan Park

We arrived in Uluru on 13/04/2021 for 1 night on our way to WA. We have been here twice before visiting both the Rock and the Olgas and this time visited the Field of Lights.

As darkness falls and Uluru is thrown into silhouette, Field of Light illuminates. As far as the eye can see gentle rhythms of colour light up the desert.

The critically acclaimed Field of Light Uluru by the artist Bruce Munro is named Tili Wiru Tjuta Nyakutjaku or ‘looking at lots of beautiful lights’ in local Pitjantjatjara . Overwhelming in size, covering more than seven football fields, there are 50,000 spindles of light, the stems breathing and swaying through a sympathetic desert spectrum of ochre, deep violet, blue and gentle white.

Amazing to see, difficult to describe and to capture.

Last night (13/04/2021) we said goodbye to Jason and Jo who we have loved having as travelling companions over the last 2 weeks. Sadly they need to head back into SA and then back to home on the Gold Coast. We wanted them to stay but they mentioned something about work commitments :-).

So today, 14/04/2021, we alone head to Docker River just on the NT/WA border, to cross into WA on 15/04/2021. Then we have a long drive over to the WA coast where there has been a cyclone. So rather than having a holiday we may we helping to clean up. And that is if we can get there as the road west of Laverton is closed at the moment. Never a dull moment when we are traveling. We have been asked if there is likely to be an earthquake on our trip…..

Next stop, Docker River NT

Good photos of field of lights and Southern Cross. I’m sure you would have walked past the track where I broke my wrist. Wish we could join you in your adventures. D
